On Friday, January 30th, MFA Film hosted an Encore Screening of the Fall semester’s short films and a Spring 2026 MFA Film mixer for all UGA students and local community members interested in connecting and working on upcoming student films.

Despite the chilly winter weather, students, faculty, alumni, and film friends gathered at Athena SPLC to round out a week of events with the screening and mixer.

To kick off the evening, MFA Film screened the First Year fall short films written, directed, and produced by the MFA Film class of 2027. These films were originally screened at the end of the Fall semester at the UGA Fine Arts Building Balcony Theatre, and the encore screening provided another opportunity to see the First Year students’ hard work on screen.

The evening continued with the MFA Film Mixer, where attendees gathered to enjoy refreshments, networking, and activities in the Athena SPLC lobby and soundstage. Amid music and conversation, attendees mingled and voted on which nominees they thought would win each category of the upcoming 2026 Oscars.

Then, film students took to the microphone for “rapid fire pitches,” and each presented their upcoming short film to practice pitching and recruit potential cast and crew.
