Take a look behind the scenes of the first-year MFA Film students’ recent productions!

Each first-year student wrote, produced, and directed a short film this fall, and also worked on each others’ films in a variety of crew roles. During the first portion of the semester, students brought in their short film scripts and dove headfirst into preproduction, preparing budgets, scouting and locking locations, and hiring cast and crew to bring these films to life.

During the month of October, all 14 students shot their films, with as many as 4 films shooting simultaneously in a single weekend across Athens. The productions tackled a wide variety of topics and genres, each showcasing the writer-director’s unique voice. While some productions shot on the soundstage at Athena SPLC, others shot on locations across the University of Georgia and Athens-area residences and vendors.

Now, first-year students are deep in postproduction: editing, sound designing, mixing, color correcting, and polishing their short films to reach Final Cut.

The first-year fall films will be shown in a public screening on Saturday, December 6th, 10:00am-12:00pm at UGA’s Fine Arts Building, Balcony Theatre room 400.
