Congratulations to 2nd year MFA Film students Aida Elkashef, Chaeyoon Lee, and Connor Pannell on receiving grants in support of their upcoming thesis films!

Both Aida and Chaeyoon received the 2026 Voice to the Voiceless Grant which looks to students from University of Georgia undertaking projects that amplify marginalized voices, advance social justice, and create bonds of empathy and understanding, thus carrying forward the work of distinguished alumna, journalist and author Charlayne Hunter-Gault (ABJ ‘63). More than $14,000 was awarded in grants this year.

Aida and Connor were each awarded a Willson Center Graduate Research Award. This award, given by UGA’s Willson Center for Humanities & Arts, provides support of up to $2000 toward research and practice-related expenses for arts and humanities projects that are essential components of a graduate degree program.

Connor was also awarded the Janelle Padgett Knight Graduate Research Award, also given by UGA’s Willson Center for Humanities & Arts. The Janelle Padgett Knight Graduate Research Award is especially selective and only awarded to the top-ranked proposal, and is not guaranteed to be given out each year.

Congrats!
