The School Mistress won the Best Local Film at Blue Ridge Film Festival 2025. Written and directed by Alex Richard Thomas (MFA ’23) for his thesis film, the film follows a schoolmistress on her trip to town in 1910’s Georgia. She confronts the societal expectations of her life which she becomes desperate to escape. The School Mistress also screened at Athens Film Festival 2024 and won the Best Drama at the Hub City Film Festival 2024. The film concluded its festival run at Blue Ridge Film Festival.
